Arranging fibre installation for Ultra-Fast Broadband in apartments and office buildings will be more straightforward in future, thanks to a new code of practice.

Northpower’s growing stature in fibre networks has culminated in a visit this week from the Australian Government Select Committee on the Australian National Broadband Network (NBN).

Northland, the local fibre company building the government subsidised UFB network in Whangarei has chosen Ericsson as the supplier of its GPON technology. It’s the second important UFB win for the vendor, which was selected last month to supply Chorus with 20,000km of air blown fibre.

Swedish communications company Ericsson have signed a deal with fibre-optics company Northpower to supply the equipment that will power a component of Whangarei’s Ultra-Fast Broadband network.

• Ericsson to supply the Gigabit Passive Optical Networking - GPON - technology component to the Northpower Fibre Ultra-Fast Broadband network in Whangarei.
•  GPON ‘lights the last mile’ by translating data into flashes of light for ultra-fast transmission along optical fibre.
• GPON is the main broadband access technology selected for the UFB which enables an optic fibre cable network to deliver data rich transmissions, such as interactive TV, real time video communications and professional services.
